On October 14, 2010, from 4:15 – 7:30 pm the Education Department will host its Free Educator Open House aboard the Intrepid!
As the 2010 school year begins, the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum would like to invite educators and administrators to gain a new perspective on Intrepid’s core themes of water, aviation, history, and space exploration while developing an understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of math, science, and history.
Educators will have the opportunity to participate in school workshop demonstrations, discover the mathematics covered in the Intrepid’s space and science programs and observe water testing activities and hands-on experiments that prompt discussions about water conservation.
Through the Museum’s aircraft collection, teachers will realize the connectivity of nature and engineering through the achievements of flight and aeronautics. Part of the evening will be spent exploring American history through the experiences of Intrepid’s crew members through artifacts, photographs, letters, and art.
Register for this free event by Friday, October 8th, 2010.
Educator Explorations is an interactive program designed to meet Professional Development Standards, Performance Standards, and New York City Leadership Standards.
