Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum recently opened The Medal of Honor Stories Kiosk, a new interactive exhibit highlighting the men and women who have received the nation’s highest award for valor in combat.
More than 40 million veterans have served since the Civil War, but fewer than 3,500 men and women have been awarded the Medal of Honor. The new exhibit presents video interviews with Medal recipients who share their inspiring stories in their own words. And the Medal of Honor Database kiosk contains a complete, searchable catalog of all Medal of Honor recipients.
Sergeant First Class Leroy Arthur Petry is the most recent recipient of the Medal of Honor. Awarded on July 12, 2011, Petry was recognized for his courage and self-sacrifice in his effort to successfully save two of his fellow Army Rangers during combat in Afghanistan.
Sergeant Frist Class Petry is the second living Medal of Honor recipient from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Seven service members were posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for their actions in these two conflicts.
This exhibition is made possible with the generous support of the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation.
